Accomplishments

1992 TO PRESENT CRIME PREVENTION FAIRS Crime fairs are an important means to share information.   NWBWC, Inc. volunteers have participated in numerous crime fairs throughout Phoenix.
1994 OPERATION CLEAN SWEEP With the cooperation of the Phoenix Police Department and the Phoenix Fire Department, NWBWC, Inc. members participated in the demolition and burning of a building formerly used to house a drug lab.
1994 GRAFFITI NABBERS™ HOTLINE POSTER CONTEST Sponsored an anti-graffiti poster contest with participation of approximately 10,000 K through 8 grade students from three Phoenix school districts.   Prizes were awarded for the winning posters.
1995 SIXTH ANNUAL NEIGHBORHOODS THAT WORK PROGRAM Northwest Block Watch Coalition, Inc. wins city-wide competition in the Arts Category for its use of art to involve youth in the 1994 Graffiti Hotline poster contest.
1995 - Present GRAFFITI HOTLINE The NWBWC, Inc. was very gratified when the Graffiti Hotline phone number went on line to report graffiti vandals in February 1995.  new2.gif (111 bytes)  As of February 28 ,2007, the hotline has received over 49,000 calls, resulting in 1,400 arrests and paid out 1,500 rewards totaling $170,000.00.
1995 -1998 NATIONAL NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME The NWBWC, Inc. has participated in National Night Out by attending various neighborhood parties, handing out Graffiti Hotline promotional items and sharing general information on crime prevention.
1996 ANTI- GRAFFITI  TRUCK Southwest Gas and SPC Auto Parts donated and refurbished a truck to transport the NWBWC, Inc. paint sprayer and "Stealth Team ™".  Fuel is donated by Phoenix Fuel Company, Phoenix, AZ.
1996 - Present CHRISTMAS ADOPT-A-FAMILY Donated and delivered Christmas gifts to needy families.
1997-Present GRAFFITI HOTLINE NIGHT VISION PROMOTION The NWBWC, Inc. designed a Night Vision Poster to promote the Graffiti Hotline.  This promotion includes a billboard, 6,500 posters, 150,000 business cards, 250,000 pencils and new runs of the original Graffiti Hotline T-shirts and mugs.
1997- Present SENIOR HOME PAINTING PROJECT The NWBWC, Inc. began a program to paint the homes of low income seniors at no charge and painted our first home in June 1997.  As of February 2003, thirty homes have been painted.
1997 SUNNYSLOPE REVITALIZATION PROJECT With the help of John C. Lincoln Health Network volunteers, the NWBWC, Inc. came to the aid of a neighborhood needing paint and cleanup.
1997 GRAFFITI HOTLINE BILLBOARD Donated by Eller Media Company to promote the county-wide Graffiti Hotline Program on behalf of the NWBWC, Inc..
1996 -2003 INTERNATIONAL ASSN Of   CHIEF'S Of  POLICE CONFERENCE At the Phoenix 1996 conference provided volunteer service - At the 1997 conference in Orlando Florida, Eastman Kodak sponsored NWBWC, Inc. as an exhibitor promoting the Arizona Graffiti Hotline program. In !998 we were sponsored by ITT Night Vision to display information on our Phoenix programs.  NWBWC attends  workshops, and networks with law enforcement agencies internationally.
1998-2002 TOWN OF PARADISE VALLEY CRIME PREVENTION FAIR Invited by Police Chief John D. Wintersteen to provide crime prevention and graffiti removal information exhibit.
1998 ANTI-GRAFFITI PRESENTATIONS Presented Anti-Graffiti information to the  sixth graders at Desert Winds Elementary School and to a class at Ottawa University.
1998 DOWNTOWN REVITALIZATION PROJECT Re-striped the parking lot for Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Downtown Phoenix, in June 1998.  This was done as our contribution to help make downtown Phoenix a safer and cleaner city for future generations.
1998 NATIONAL SHERIFF'S  ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE in Phoenix, AZ NWBWC, Inc. was sponsored by ITT NIGHT VISION™ at the conference.  To inform Sheriffs from all over the United States about our partnership with ITT NIGHT VISION™ and to make information available on our Anti-Graffiti Hotline Program.
1999 -2001 OPERATION GRAFFITI SWEEP The NWBWC "Stealth Team" ™ partnered with AZ DPS in recording and removing graffiti along the major freeways in Metropolitan Phoenix
2000 NATIONAL CRIME PREVENTION COUNCIL AWARD OF EXCELLENCE NWBWC's president receives this national award for his volunteerism in crime prevention and developing the Graffiti Hotline program.
2000 INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION NWBWC's president traveled to Perth, Australia as the keynote speaker at the Western Australian Anti-Graffiti Conference.  
2002 "POINTS OF LIGHT   AWARD" NWBWC's president received this award from the "Points of Light Foundation in Washington, D.C. He also received a letter of recognition for his volunteer work in Crime Prevention, from George W. Bush, President of the United States.

BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA

"GRAFFITI & DISORDER" CONFERENCE

 

 

 President Tony Piraino was a guest speaker and presented NWBWC's successful Metropolitan Anti-Graffiti Hotline Program  to over two hundred law enforcement and governmental officials attending the First Annual Conference from Australia.  Mr. Piraino's trip to the conference was sponsored by the City of Casey, Australia.

CASEY, AUSTRALIA

 

The City of Casey, Australia a suburb of Melbourne, Australia is the fastest growing city in the State of Victoria in Australia. Casey city officials invited  Tony Piraino to visit their city, after the "Graffiti and Disorder" conference, to network with city officials and met with the Director of Crime Prevention for the State of Victoria, Department of Justice.

 Tony and the Northwest Block Watch Coalition were honored at a Special "Ward Dinner" and City Council Meeting for  the Coalition's help in  formulating Casey's new Anti-Graffiti Program . Graffiti in the city has been reduced over 85% since the program started in 2002.
